Great Canoe Races of Naples Returns May 16 with “Legends of the Gulf” Theme

Naples’ beloved paddling tradition returns to Baker Park on May 16, 2026, as the Great Canoe Races of Naples celebrates its 46th running. This year’s event, themed “Legends of the Gulf,” honors the stories, wildlife, coastal culture, and community spirit that define life along the Gulf.

Dating back to 1977, the Great Canoe Races began when two local entrepreneurs marked the end of their first season in business. Nearly five decades later, the event continues as a signature Naples gathering, hosted by Young Professionals of Naples and community partners.

Race day will feature much more than canoe competition. Attendees can expect paddle board and kayak races, canoe heats, the creative “Build Your Vessel” race, a youth race, vendor fair, live entertainment, a beer garden, merchandise, and award ceremonies throughout the day. Scheduled entertainment includes performances by Matty Jolie, Moonstone Ridders, Sun State Blues, and Sprout Music.

The event also carries a conservation-focused mission. Organizers say the races are designed to promote water and boating safety, responsible stewardship, and respect for local waterways while bringing paddlers, volunteers, vendors, and spectators together for a full day of competition and community celebration.
