It’s time for the annual Great Dock Canoe Race! One of Naples’ most beloved and popular events, this historical race has deep roots within the Dock Restaurant at Crayton Cove.
It was in the spring of 1977 that a new restaurant, The Dock at Crayton Cove, decided to throw an end-of-season party to celebrate its first year. Because of its waterfront setting, a themed canoe race seemed ideal. Twenty-five contestants and 150 spectators participated in that first race. Today, contestants and spectators travel from throughout the country to attend and hundreds of people, from young children to grandparents, celebrate the race on land, dock and bay!
The 37th Annual Great Dock Canoe Race will take place on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at Crayton Cove. The event starts at 11:00AM sharp and this year’s theme is Saturday Night Live! Bring your canoe and a partner, and compete for prizes!
Proceeds from this year’s event will benefit the Special Olympics of Collier County. To register as a canoeist in the race or for more information, please visit www.GreatDockCanoeRace.com.
