Collier Commissioners Approve Summer Tourism Ad, Marketing Campaign

A tourism campaign that will run from July 1- Aug. 30 has been approved by Collier County commissioners.  $414,836 will be spent by the county’s tourism bureau for advertising and marketing. The money will need to come from the bureau’s emergency fund because regular funds were used to run its first-ever winter campaign and move its traditional spring-summer campaign up to early March to deal with a global economic slowdown. “The money for advertising and marketing for tourism comes from a tourist tax, which is a 4 percent charge on hotel rooms and other short-term stays.” The promotional campaign will target the following drive markets within a few hours of Naples: Miami, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, Orlando, Tampa & St. Petersburg.
